Twentieth Century Delft Tiles: Northwest I
Twentieth Century Delft Tiles: Northwest I
Glazed ceramic tile.
36" x 30"
1987

My "Twentieth Century Delft" tile work reflects my interest in the effects of the passage of time itself. I was inspired by the historic Delft tiles in which Dutch artists depicted both major and minor aspects of their world in tile imagery.

A group of hand drawn and screen printed tiles, many of which have Northwest regional subjects. A before, during and after view of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980, viewed from Rocky Butte in Portland, about 45 miles away. Also, a tile image quote from Science News comparing the archival permanence of film, microfilm, modern paper, and magnetic tape. A view of one of the Benson Fountains and the Portland Building. Weight: 50lbs.
